Without Finca La Luisa, Medellín Secret wouldn't exist.

Our family knew these slopes long before the brand did. That connection to the land, to the people who worked it and the coffee it produced, was the seed of everything that followed.

Medellín Secret grew from that history, from a belief that coffee like this deserves a story worth telling.

That belief still shapes everything we do: one farmer, one finca, one harvest.

Where two mountain ranges meet

The central and western cordilleras of the Andes come together in this part of Colombia, and that geography matters more than you might think. The soft winds drifting in from the Pacific get funnelled between the two ranges, cooling the slopes of Ciudad Bolívar night after night. Temperature swings between day and night can reach 15 degrees.

That rhythm of warm days and cool nights slows the ripening of the coffee cherries, giving them more time on the tree. And more time means more complexity in the cup. The juicy, rounded acidity that defines this coffee? It traces back to this valley, and to that wind.

Raised among the coffee trees

Silvia Vargas grew up around coffee. She inherited Finca La Luisa from her father, alongside her brothers and sisters, though they each went their own way. Silvia took the reins.

Her vision stretches well beyond the harvest. She's building something bigger: healthier soil, a stronger community, and a future for a region she deeply believes in.

She uses biochar to improve the land for the long term, a method that enriches soil health and supports the farm's carbon balance. And as co-founder of a foundation that mentors girls in the region and opens doors to education, she invests just as much in people as she does in the land.

One finca. One woman. One clear vision.

From blossom to cup

The beans from Finca La Luisa are washed processed, a method that lets the pure character of the bean speak for itself. The result is a coffee that carries its origin with confidence.

The acidity is juicy and round. Not sharp, not flat, but that sweet spot that keeps you coming back. Alongside it, notes of plum and blackberry: dark fruit, with real depth. With an SCA score of 84.5, this coffee officially qualifies as specialty grade, but you'll know that from the first sip.

This isn't a coffee that shouts. It's one that stays with you.

News from the finca

An afternoon on Plaza Bolívar, in the shade of the samans. We sat down with Silvia to talk about the season, the flowering, and how she tends to her land.
