Medellín Secret began with a family connection, a finca in the hills of Colombia and a simple conviction: that the coffee growing there deserved more than an anonymous place in a blend. That there was a world behind those beans worth knowing.
More than twenty years later we're still working with the same people, on the same land. Only now there are three fincas, three origins and three stories we want to share with you.
Where It Began
The connection to Finca La Luisa goes back a long way. A coffee farm in the hills of Antioquia, Colombia, where our family has had ties for decades.
The beans grown there were of exceptional quality. But they kept disappearing into anonymous blends, priced by markets far away. Without a name. Without a story.
At the same time, something was shifting. The third wave of coffee was rising and people were growing more curious about where their coffee came from, who had grown it, what a place does to a flavour.
It felt like the right moment to do things differently.
Three Fincas, Three Origins
Finca La Luisa was the beginning. But the conviction that good coffee deserves a name and a story didn't stop at one finca.
We went into the field. Spoke to farmers. Tasted their coffee. Learned their land. That's how the relationships with Finca Santa Elena in Costa Rica and Finca La Candelaria in Guatemala came to be. Not through a catalogue or middleman, but by simply going there.
Three fincas, three origins, three families who have devoted their lives to one piece of land. That's where our coffee comes from.
Why We Do It Differently
Most coffee still travels anonymously. From farmer to exporter to blend, without a name, without a face. For us something is lost in that journey. Not just in flavour, but in connection. To the place. To the people. To the story behind what you drink.
Many coffee brands claim direct trade, but in reality buy through an importer or platform. The distance remains. We know the farmers by name, have walked their land and come back every season.
Direct trade for us means a fair price and a relationship that matters. For the farmer who knows their harvest is valued, who can invest in their land and their people. For the community that benefits directly. And for you, who knows what's in your cup and who made it.
